Our mission

At Leatherhead Swans Club we provide and assist in the provision of facilities for the recreation, education, sport and other leisure time activities for disabled people. We deliver this support primarily to people in Surrey, while having a flexible approach to learning, personalising achievement and supporting progression.

We meet every Tuesday from 6.30pm-9pm at The Leatherhead Leisure Centre.

About The Leatherhead Swans Club

With almost a hundred members and a great team of volunteers, The Leatherhead Swans Club is the largest multi-activity sports club for the disabled in the South of England and affiliated to PHAB. Based in Leatherhead, Surrey, the ‘Swans Club’ was established in 1975 to offer disabled people a range of physical and social activities to engage them in the community, providing a positive focus on their abilities and what people can do, rather than their limitations.

Weekly activities:

We organise weekly activities to help and support disabled people in an active and socially engaging life through sport and recreation. We’re making a real difference to people in our disabled community and their families.

Our valuable volunteers:

Our team of dedicated volunteers provide vital support to our members and ensure our events run smoothly. The ‘Swans’ would not be able to enrich the lives of our members without their dedication and commitment.

49 years of dedication:

Currently entering our 49th year of operation the 'Swans' continues to play a vital role in the community by providing sport and recreation for disabled people. We’re proud to serve our members and provide these vital activities.

“The Leatherhead Swans Club has made a big difference to my life. I’ve made new friends and get to do lots of activities that wouldn’t be possible without their support.”

The Leatherhead Swans Club - a brief history

The Leatherhead Swans was formed in October 1975 as a registered charity through the endeavours of our founder, the late Vi Hardman MBE. Along with considerable assistance from the British Sports Association for the Disabled and the Leatherhead Council of Sport & Recreation, the Swans is a vital resource that helps enrich the lives of disabled people from the area.

We operate from the Leatherhead Leisure Centre and offer a range of sporting opportunities for people with varying disabilities of any age. We also make their families, friends and carers welcome.

The Queen’s Golden Jubilee Award

In 2003 we proudly received the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Award for voluntary groups in the community in recognition of our valuable work with the disabled.

Our variety of sports, leisure and social activities are supported by our invaluable volunteers and instructors whose contribution to The Leatherhead Swans Club and commitment to its members ensures our members have an enjoyable and fulfilling experience.
