Our Activities

We engage people with disabilities in stimulating activities that have an incredibly positive life enhancing effect. Involvement in activities such as Swimming, Bowls, Gym, Yoga, Boccia, Kurling and exercise, including some competitive events, benefits our members in a number of ways. In addition to the advantages of exercise, people coming to the Leatherhead Swans Club can access other activities such as Bingo, Craft activities, Dance, Karaoke and Dough Disco. Get to meet new people, make lasting friendships and be part of a thriving social scene that builds confidence and independence.

In 2003 we proudly received the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Award for voluntary groups in the community in recognition of our valuable work with the disabled.
Our variety of sports, leisure and social activities are supported by our invaluable volunteers and instructors whose contribution to The Leatherhead Swans Club and commitment to its members ensures our members have an enjoyable and fulfilling experience.

SWIMMING 8Pm to 9pm

We have special equipment to make your swim enjoyable, whilst qualified lifeguards and three qualified Volunteer Swimming Instructors ensure the safety of everyone around the pool. It’s amazing to see the transformation of those normally confined to a wheelchair or otherwise impaired, when they enter the pool and move under their own power enjoying the freedom of the water. Additionally, members can learn to swim, achieve various certifications or take part in competitive swimming at our Galas all under the direction of qualified swimming coaches. There is a dedicated disabled change area with overhead hoist, changing bench, shower and toilet. Poolside hoist and chairs to support access into the pool. We organise two annual swimming galas where other clubs are invited and provide opportunities for our swimmers to attend other galas in the South East. These are always well attended and our swimmers often obtain outstanding achievements which we always recognise.

ACTIVITIES IN THE TYLNEY ROOM 6.45pm to 9pm

The Tylney Room is the meeting point for members that offers a place to socialise with friends or enjoy a variety of clubroom type activities such as Boccia, New Age Bowls, Kurling, board games, art & craft based activities, Bingo, or music and dance.

Members can come along and partake in their chosen activity or if they prefer just sit and have a chat with their friends over a drink. We also have weekly raffles.

GYM 7pm to 7.30pm

Half hour sessions supported by volunteers put members to the test. Members are given an introduction to the equipment with a personal fitness assessment and individual exercise programme. This helps to build fitness and muscle tone, as well as providing a boost to your confidence and self-esteem.

INDOOR BOWLS 7pm to 9pm

Working in collaboration with Mole Valley Indoor Bowls Club, we use a wonderful indoor Bowls Hall playing from one end. Under the direction of our Bowls Coach and team of voluntgeers, members meet every week to learn the game, gain new skills and practice working towards Disability Day events. At these events we play aginst able bodied bowlers from various clubs and have an array of specialist equipment to support our members.

SOCIAL EVENTS

The Leatherhead Swans organise a range of social events including outings, boat trips and pantomimes. We aim to create events that enrich and empower the lives of our members and help them achieve independence.
